Breathe
Yoga takes on many forms. Styles ranging from body sculpting asanas to meditative savasana, yoga always gives you what you need. All forms of yoga can be found on a Journey Yoga Retreat.
Bikram Method
This form of yoga has 26 asanas and 2 breathing exercises performed in a heated room. Kate has been teaching this method of yoga since 2006 and finds it has many benefits. It increases your blood circulation while cleansing and detoxing your physical body. Each posture has specific medical benefits and helps maintain a healthy body, both physical and mental. Kate continues to practice this series regularly and says it has helped her rehab injuries as well as keep her mental health in check. Although this series is meant to be strictly 26 postures, Kate always encourages her students to do any kind of variation of the posture to better suit their needs. Every BODY can practice yoga.
Vinyasa Flow
Power Yoga or Vinyasa Flow is a style of yoga that can work for everyone. There is a continuous movement, or "flow" from posture to posture. Different from the Bikram method, Vinyasa has many modifications and alternatives to certain asanas that may not work for each student. In Kates flow class, she starts slowly, warming up the body through breath and gentle postures. She likes to put together unique sequences in the middle of class to challenge the students balance, strength, and flexibility. Always, the ladder part of her classes are more restorative, quiet, and calming. You will leave her vinyasa class feeling inspired and rejuvinated!
Partner Stretching
Deepen your stretch with a partner! Partner stretching is playful, promotes trust and communication, and is a lot of fun! Kate has been teaching partner yoga for almost 20 years and will make you feel comfortable and safe trying something new! Have you ever wished someone would gently push on your lower back and hips in childs pose? Or feel what its like to backbend with assistance? This is your opportunity to feel just that! Kate will talk you through various ways to stretch your partner as well as teach you Thai massage methods, practice acro yoga, and simply have a great time!
Yin Yoga
Restorative Yoga, yin yoga, works deep into the joints and skeletal system of your body. While power yoga requires strength and effort, yin yoga is more for the muscles groups to relax. Ease instead of effort! Gravity will play an important role in this class as we lie down on our mats for most of the class. Yin postures are generally held for 3-5 minutes and focus more on breath. Kate has found that yin yoga has calmed her, mentally and physically.
